DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 779 is a metallic parabola in which the internal surface has been polished to become a mirror. It is mounted on a wood column which rests on a tripod. This apparatus can be used alone or with a similar parabola to demonstrate reflection of thermal radiation (a) or acoustic waves. (b)
a) To demonstrate reflection of thermal radiation, place at the focus of one parabola a match head and at the focus of the other a lighted cancle. (See design-1).
b) To demonstrate reflection of acoustic waves, place a ticking clock at the focus of one and a funnel attached to a flexible tube at the other. The ticking sound should then be audible at the opposite end of the tube (See design-2)
This mirror was acquired together with exhibit 780
