DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 430 is the elbow polariscope used to produce polarized light by reflection. The incident light coming from a projection lantern, like the Leybold universal lantern, is reflected at an angle of 58°, corresponding to the Brewster angle. One use of the apparatus foresaw the insertion of a sheet of calcite carefully cut with variable thicknesses. With a non polarized light beam, it appears transparent, while in the presence of polarized light there appear geometrical forms due to the optical activity of the sustance and the thickness traversed.
