DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 784 is part of the demonstration of the presence of centrifugal force to explain the flattening of the earth at the poles as a consequence of the daily rotation.
Our example consists of five thin semicircular steel strips brought together in the upper zone in a ring, free to slide along a vertical axis. The lower parts of the strips are tied to a fixed position on the vertical axis (see photo-1). When the axis is forced to rotate by turning a crank, the steel strips assume an elliptical form due to the centrifugal force.
