DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 581 is the workbench of Macedonio Melloni (1798-1854) used to study radiant heat, or infrared radiation. It was conceived like an optical bench being made of mahogany wood with four adjustable screws as feet and supporting a one meter brass bar calibrated in divisions of 1/2 cm. On the bar it was possible to mount the heat generator (an alcohol burner), the heat detector (a thermoelectric battery connected to a galvanometer) and other accessories.Dati Catalografici
