DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 574 is an electric dynamo modeled on the design of Pacinotti. It consists of a metallic base which originally was supported by wood legs for isolation. On this base there are: A metal column with an axis for a manually operated wheel with a pulley. Two coils (B1 B2) fixed horizontally between two bakelite supports. The coils have sliding connections to the commutator on the main horizontal axis as well as to external terminals (T1 T2). On the side of the main rotor there is an iron ring placed between the poles of a very strong permanent magnet whose poles are fixed with a brass bar. The ring supports 18 mobile coils connected to collector elements on which the sliding contacts are connected to terminals (T3 T4). As a dynamo: On turning manually the wheel in the clockwise sense, the iron ring turns in the anti-clockwise sense because the belt is crossed and direct current is available at contacts (T3 T4). As a motor: With a voltage applied to (T1 T2), the current causes the armature composed of the mobile coils and iron ring to rotate and convert electrical energy to mechanical work.
