DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 549 is a set of elements used to measure the hardness of water conserved in a departmentalized wood case. The elements are two small bottles and a buret graduated in units of hardness (hydrotimetric degrees) according to the method of Boutron Boudet.

The instrucions for measuring the hardness and carrying the name of the constructor are also in the box:

Before softening water, it is advisable to first determine the hardness which can vary from season to season.
The measurement procedure is the following: Nella cassetta un foglio con il no
1) Fill the small bottle with 40 cc of the water to be analyzed;
2) Fill the buret with the hydroalcolic soap solution to the graduated limit;
3) Pour drop by drop the solution in the small bottle, shaking vigorously until there is a homogeneous persistent foam about 1/2 centimeter thick which lasts at least five minutes. The number of degrees indicated on the buret is then the hardness of the water in french degrees.

This is a widely used emperical method based on the amount of produced foam.
