DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 542 is the Duboscq collection of optical accessories to be mounted on the optical bench of exhibit 931 Duboscq Optical Bench and conserved in a special wood box with many compartments. The elements are: Two simple column supports, two adjustable column supports, two extension elements, two supporting plates, Fresnel mirrors, rectangular slits, circular slits of various diameters, a double slit, lenses, mirrors, a glass plate with parallel faces, and an eyepiece mounted on a Fresnel micrometer.
This optical bench and its accessories could be used with both solar and electric light and was designed to emphasize interference and diffraction phenomena. To use solar light, one probably used the Silbermann heliostat (exhibit 600) also manufactured by Duboscq.
