DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 534 is a Gourjon differential galvanometer with two separate windings on a single coil placed beneath the visible dial. The windings can be combined in series to provide one strong field or in opposition to provide a difference field. The resulting field rotates the N-S needle inside the coil and the S-N needle in the same direction in the return field so as to be independent of the earth's magnetic field (astatic configuration invented by Nobili). The S-N needle then serves as indicator on the visible dial. The instrument is protected by a bell jar fixed on the brass base supported by three adjustable screws for leveling.ISCRIZIONI
