DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 506 is a condensation hydrometer for determining the water vapor content in the atmosphere.
It is composed of two silver tubes each holding a glass tube. A thermometer is inserted in each glass tube through a cork tap. The thermometer in the reference tube measures the ambient temperature. The other tube is filled with ether the vapor of which is pumped out by a weak vacuum pump through a rubber tube attached to an elbow glass tube inserted beside the thermometer. The ambient air is pumped through a tube inserted beside the reference thermometer and then through a tube inserted in the cooling ether. When dew begins to form in the second tube the dew point temperature is read from the second themometer and tables are used to quantify the relative humidity.
