DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 504 is an instrument for measuring the density of liquids (in this case declared as that of vinegar). It is calibrated in grams per cc and the scale varies from 0 to 8.4 g/cc.
It is a small glass tube that becomes a cylinder of diameter about 2 cm that narrows again at the lower end where it becomes a sphere of slightly greater diameter filled with lead.

This immersion densitometer is of the type constant weight ^[1]. It is based on the Archimedes principal: when placed in a liquid it receives an upward force that depends on the density of the liquid being examined. The density of the liguid is read directly at the level of the liquid-air surface.
