DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 503 is part of a pressure gauge for a flame which R. Koenig called a capsule and used to represent graphically a human voice. This capsule is composed to two metal hemispheres screwed together with a membrane in the middle between two chambers (see design:1) The flow of the gas which supplies the flame is varied by the movements of the membrane driven by the oscillations from a Helmholtz resonator (exhibit 53) or human voice positioned at the funnel type entrance. The variations of intensity of the flame then reflects the incident sound waves maximum for a node and minimum for an antinode. The rapid flame variations can be visualized with a rotating mirror which projects a luminous strip that oscillates up and down. In the case of using a Helmholtz resonator, the small opening intended for the ear substitutes the voice at the funnel entrance.BIBLIOGRAPHY
