DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 468 is a registering hygrometer that measures the humidity in the air using the property of hair to absorb this humidity and vary its length as a consequence. In this instrument a bundle of hair which is held in tension controls the position of a stylus (writing pointer) through its lengthening and shortening. The stylus rests on a cylinder wrapped in millimetric paper and which rotates according to the control of a clock mechanism. The bundle of hair and the associated controls are enclosed in a metallic cage while the rotating cylinder is enclosed in a metal box with a glass window. A time scale incised on the cylinder indicates that a complete revolution lasts 8 days. There is also a key for winding the clock mechanism.BIBLIOGRAPHY
