DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 465 is a Shielded Deprez-D'Arsonval Galvanometer which means that the mobile element is the current carrying coil which can rotate in a magnetic field created by permanent magnets (see exhibit 29). In this case there are four superposed circular horseshoe magnets. The mobile coil is suspended by a torsional wire which carries a mirror for reading by the Poggendorf method (see exhibit 371). The instrument has three adjustable feet for leveling. This galvanometer is enclosed in a metallic cylinder that shields it from electromagnetic disturbances. This cylinder has a glass window for viewing the mirror.
