Exhibit 464 is the single wire Wulf electrometer, in which a wire is suspended in an electric field, applied by two plates, where it is deflected according to the charge it carries. The deflection, observed with a microscope, is in general not linear. The wire is made of platinum or quartz and is maintained in tension by being tied to a quartz fiber on the bottom. The plates are adjustable in separation but usually maintained at about 1 cm and 100 volts.
