DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 410 is a registering thermometer used in meteorology to record the temperature for a given period. The thermometer consists of two strips of different metals with different thermal expansion coefficients. The registration is effected by writing on a brass cylinder covered with millimeter paper which rotates slowly driven by a brass clock mechanism. The entire apparatus is enclosed in a metal box with a large window which is hinged on the lower back side for complete internal access and has a brass handle on the top. The rotating cylinder was constructed by Richard Frères, while the box and the metallic net seems to have been constructed in the physics workshop.
