DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 401 is an interferometer utilized to demonstrate complex luminous structures. It was used in spectroscopy combined with a magnetic field to study the Zeeman effect since it had a high resolutive power. Oriented on a platform there are a collimator and a telescope. Between the two there is a deviation prism that can be rotated by a screw. A second prism disperses the light in the direction of the telescope. A monochromatic ray, after passing through the collimater and the prisms, is reflected and rifracted several time in a laminar structure designed by Lummer e Gehrcke (see exhibit 556). The upper part of the interferometer is covered to avoid ambient light. The apparatus rests on a heavy iron base.
