DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 361 is an inclined plane of glass, registered by the director of the physics department, prof. Giuseppe Domenico Botto and by the Economo of the University Giuseppe Cacciardi on August 27 1847. It was probably constructed by Jest, famous instrument makers in Turin during the 1800's since it is similar to an identical instrument signed Jest belonging to the Real Collegio Carlo Alberto of Moncalieri. In this instrument the inclined plane is hinged at the base and the inclination is varied (from 0 to 60°) by a brass nut which actions two levers that raise the plane. There is a light carriage with two wheels that runs on the plane and is retained by a rope that passes over a pulley maintained in tension by a weight. The base of walnut wood has four adjustable legs for leveling. There is also a protractor for reading the inclination.
