DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 319 is a cathode ray tube (CRT) so called because the internal rays are due to electrons emitted from a heated cathode and accelerated toward a sensitive surface which converts the kinetic energy of the incident electrons into visible light. Besides the acceleration, there are deflection electrodes controlled by external circuits so that the image formed on the sensitive surface has a useful information content as when the tube is employed in an oscilloscope or in a television set.

The basic CRT technology was developed by the German physicist Karl Ferdinand Braun in 1897 and used to make an oscilloscope. The application of the CRT to television was realized by the American inventor Philo Farnsworth.

At the present time the tube technology is being replaced by plasma, by liquid crystals and by Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED), all of which have lower costs of production and usage and are less voluminous.

This exhibit is a CRT from an oscilloscope. The part containing the cathode is metalized and thus not transparent.

ISCRIZIONI

  1. Sul tubo è scritto il nome del costruttore: le parole "Radio AG" e "DS Loewe" sono separate da un logo che raffigura un periodo di sinusoide.
