DESCRIPTION
The Deprez-D'Arsonval galvanometer is an example of the moving coil type as introduced in exhibit 27 but is more sensitive being suspended by a very thin but very elastic phosphor bronze strip which provides the current connection to the square coil located in a uniform radial magnetic field and also the restoring rotational couple so that the equilibrium angle has the pointer indicating the current. Inside the square coil is a soft iron cylinder which concentrates the magnetic field due to the permanent horseshoe magnet visible in the figure and makes the instrument insensitive to the earth's magnetic field. This galvanometer has a least count, or precision, of one tenth of a microamp.This instrument was constructed by Carpentier. In the collection there is another Deprez-D'Arsonval type constructed by Physikallische Workstatles.
