DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 257 is a 27 cm long Geiger Muller counter which detects ionizing radiation. It was invented by Hans Geiger and Walther Muller, collaborators of Ernest Rutherford, around 1920. It consists of a glass tube filled with gas and containing electrodes, which are maintained at a high voltage difference without generating currents. When an ionizing particle passes through the tube, a short but intense current pulse passes from the negative to the positive electrode which can be measured and recorded.ISCRIZIONI

- Un'etichetta, scritta a macchina, riporta le caratteristiche dello strumento: "Type G.24co (da G in poi si legge male perchè le etichette sono sovrapposte) operate at 1260 volts. No.HK.868". Quest'ultimo numero è anche impresso sul vetro.
