DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 99 is an instrument for demonstrating the Seebeck effect. It consists of two different metals connected to form a rectangle with their joints at the long ends of the rectangle. Inside the rectangle there is a pivot and one magnetic needle and another magnetic needle turns on a pivot on top of the rectangle. The needles are oriented N-S and S-N to cancel any effects of the earth's magnetic field. All is mounted on a lathed wood stand. When the joints are held at different temperatures there is a weak Seebeck current in the closed rectangle and the ensuing magnetic field turns the magnetic needles together.Dati Catalografici
