DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 884 is a bell jar used to show that sound transmission requires a physical medium. In this bell jar, the bell is already attached to the tap where there is also a valve that permits pumping out the enclosed air. As the air is pumped out, the jar can be jarred to swing the bell whose sound diminishes as the air pressure reduces, until no sound is perceptible. Upon opening the valve to the atmosphere, the sound of the swinging bell becomes perceptible again.BIBLIOGRAPHY
