DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 698 is a brass rod 365 mm long inserted in a wood cover in the form of a butterfly which has an 8 mm wide groove underneath to provide stability to the jar and cover combination. The rod is fixed to the cover with a nut. At one end there is soldered to the rod a thin brass disk and to the other end a small brush of thin metal filaments that can touch the inner liner of the Leyden jar when the disk is charged with an electric machine.
