DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 697 is a cover for a probably broken, since missing, Leyden jar. It has a form to fit partially in the jar. In the center there is a hole for a cork tap in which is inserted a brass rod. A brass sphere is soldered to one end and on the other end there is a small brush of nude wire copper filaments. The cork tap isolates the glass of the jar which can become a conductor in the presence of humidity. Quando the filaments of the brush are charged they repel each other and touch the internal conductor of the Leyden jar.
