DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 649 is a barometer calibrated directly in meteorological previsions. It is based on a stylus floating on a U-shaped mercury column exposed to the atmospheric pressure. The stylus is connected directly to the direct reading dial by a pulley which supports a balancing weight on the opposite side (now missing). The instrument is mounted on a decorated wood support which covers the mercury column with a small door and allows the instrument to hang vertically. Above the dial there is space for a thermometer which covers the temperature range from 36° to 68° C. The meteorological previsions are: storm, rain, variable, fine, and very dry. They are read through a glass window above which there is a manual dial for reference changes
