DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 634 is an electrodinamometer designed by the padovan physicist Manfredo Bellati for measuring very weak currents. It consists essentially of a moving part and a fixed part, mounted on a circular wood base with three leveling screws. The fixed part consists of two separate coils arranged side by side. The moving part consists of a bundle of thin iron wires supported by a silk thread held up by a tension screw. This screw is placed at the top of long glass tube to protect the silk thread from external perturbations. The bundle of iron wires is free to oscillate between the coils.

There is a pointer attached to the silk thread as well as a small mirror for measuring the angle of deviation with the method of Poggendorff.

This method permits observing deviations of the magnetic needle with a precision much greater than with the usual direct reading configuration of Nobili.
