DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 630 is an apparatus for demonstrating wave propagation. It consists of a metal frame which supports a metal wire to which are attached 30 metal flags separated from each other by 1,5 cm and also a metal rod. The wire, rod and frame complex has a hinged wood base which folds for compact storage when not in use. The tension in the wire can be adjusted to vary the speed of wave propagation.

In use, the apparatus is held vertical by a proper support (not shown). The wave mechanical wave motion is started by a small motor (missing) that rotates the rod to which is attached a small hammer which hits the first flag to start a torsion wave in the wire which is then made visibile by the movement of the flags. These flags are reflective to permit observation in the dark.

The apparatus permits observation of wave propagation, reflection, interference, for different frequencies and wave lengths.
