DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 493 are the accessories for an orthogonal coordinatograph, an instrument to design or measure with precision in cartesian coordinates on a two dimensional surface. It consists of two perpendicular graduated arms, one fixed and the other mobile. On the mobile arm, which can move along the fixed one, there is a pen holder which can move along the mobile arm. The two cartesian coordinates are then the position of the mobile arm along the fixed one and the position of the pen holder along the mobile arm. Various accessories in this exhibit can be supported by the pen holder. These include a pointer with a magnifying lens, a tracing pointer and a series of graduated disks which with their special holder permit moving the holder position a determined distance. There is also a straight edge for drawing straight lines.

On the inside of the cover of the wood case there are the instruction for converting the rotation of the graduated disks to a given change of the cartesian coordinates.
