DESCRIPTION
The instrument is a one meter long brass rod, preserved in a wooden box covered with fabric for transport. Equidistant from the center of the bar are two holes to fix the magnetometer, which is an additional part. On sides of the holes are etched two scales graduated in centimeters from 10 to 45 cms. For accurate measurements a vernier scale is provided. The central point is marked with a line.
On top of the meter rod is placed a carriage on a Y-shaped support, which serves to hold a deviating magnet: see ref. [1]..
This meter rod was probably a part of a Kew magnetometer, or Chistoni unifilar sine magnetometer. (see [1]).Chistoni Magnetometer. (see [1])
Picture-3 shows a figure from Chistoni [2], which depicts the meter rod mounted with Chistoni unifilar sine magnetometer.
