DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 419 is a tone changer invented in 1897 by the German psychologist William Stern for determining human sensibility to changes of tone. The instrument consists of a resonator in the form of a brass cylinder of variable volume, constantly filled by an air flow through an opening in the lid. To vary the volume, there is a screw on the front which rotates a gear assembly in which equal angles of rotation correspond to equal changes of frequency.ISCRIZIONI
