DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 396 is a Stern generator of tones, variable from 100 to 165 Hertz, invented by the German psychologist William Stern, to study the human sensitivity to tone variations. It consists of a resonator made of a brass cylinder with a variable volume, supplied with a constant flow of air through an opening in the lid. The screw which raises or lowers the piston is connected to a spiral constructed in such a manner that equal rotation of the screw corresponds to equal changes of frequency.ISCRIZIONI
