DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 370 is a potentiometer, a device consisting of two resistances connected together in such a way that the relative values can be varied while the sum remains the same. The simplest configuration is that of a wire on which a cursor can slide and which has terminals on both ends and also on the cursor. The name means measurer of voltage because these devices are often used to determine voltage values by comparing with reference sources. This potentiometer consists of a one meter long conducting wire stretched on a wood base fixed on a metallic base. There are terminals on both ends and one on the cursor C which is free to slide along the graduated scale marked in centimeters. This device was used in different applications:

  1. Compare two voltage sources (see Design 2).
  2. Measure the internal resistance of an electric battery;
  3. Compare two resistances;
  4. Measure small resistances;
  5. Measure small thermoelectric voltages (see design-3) .
The use of potentiometer is preferred because the circuits do not require current from a battery acting as reference.
