DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 37 is a double Looser thermoscope which consists of two manometers with open ends containing colored liquids. The longer limbs are vertical and are associated with a scale graduated in half-centimeter steps. The shorter limbs end in two vessels, each provided with a tap and a rubber junction that connects them, by means of tubes to air capsules (sensitive elements of the instrument). The two manometers can detect low pressures and can, therefore, be used to compare low pressures generated by temperature differences. The instrument is a general purpose thermoscope and allows to carry out a large number of experiments, such as: 1. Thermal expansion of bodies 2. Heat conduction 3. Heat in change of state 4. Heat and work 5. Heat in chemical reactions 6. Specific heat of bodies 7. Heat produced by compression 8. Radiant Heat 9. Heat produced by electric currents. The apparatus is furnished with three glass flasks, two metal containers and six disks of different materials (two of wood, the others of marble, lead, copper, steel).
