DESCRIPTION

The device consists of two crystal disks, with handles of the same material, used for simple electrostatics experiments. In the principal experiment the two disks were held by their handles and were rubbed vigorously together. Then they were separated quickly. Now one could observe (for example using a charged electric pendulum) that one of the two disks had charge of a certain sign, and the other of opposite charge. Such experiments could be performed with disks of different materials (glass, metal, ....): See also the Copper Disk with handle.
