DESCRIPTION
The Weinhold demonstration apparatus permits showing the effects of rotating magnetic fields derived from alternatig biphase and triphase currents. The apparatus consists of a base and some accessories. On the base there is a fixed solenoid and a commutator controlled by a crank. When the crank is turned the input continuous current becomes a type of alternating current fed to the coils of the accessories as the position of the cursor opens and closes circuits that activate the coils. The resulting rotating fields cause the objects located inside the coils to rotate.
The accessories are: A toroidal iron ring on which are wound four coils (biphase with needles and wings) A toroidal iron ring on which are wound six coils (triphase with needles) A support with two coils at 90 degrees (biphase with a rotating disk) A support with three coils at 60 degrees from each other (triphase with a rotating disk)
One can also demonstrate very clearly the variations of the magnetic lines of force with iron filings
