DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 161 is a Ruhmkorff spark coil used to generate high voltage pulses by magnetic induction. The primary circuit has a few turns of copper wire wound on a cylinder of insulating material into which an iron core can be inserted and which is auto-interrupted by magnetically attracting an iron clapper. The secondary has many turns and is wound on the same cylinder of insulating material. The condenser connected across the primary interruption reduces the production of sparks and increases the voltage produced by the secondary.
