Exhibit 142 is an electrostatic pendulum on a brass base that consists of a single vertical rod that ends with a top that curves and ends with a hook. On the rod there is a sphere at about 25 cm height. Attached to the hook there is a pith ball. When the sphere is charged the pith ball, being polarizable is attracted to the sphere. In contact it loses the polarized charge and becomes charged with the same charge as the sphere from which it swings away abruptly.
