DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 141 is a magnetized needle free to rotate on a sharply pointed pivot fixed in a wood box in the bottom of which there is a graduated scale (see photo). If there are no other magnetic fields near, it will orient itself parallel to the local meridian of the earth's magnetic field. After orienting the box so that the needle points to zero, other magnetic materials can be analyzed by bringing them near. To increase precision, the needle has a small brass pointer on its tip.Dati Catalografici
