DESCRIPTION

Exhibit 129 is a Moll thermo pile with a heat collector in the form of a truncated cone. A thermo pile converts infrared radiation, that all objects emit according to their temperature, into an electrical signal. To increase the sensitivity one connects in series many thermocouples arranged so that one of the series of junctions receives the incident radiation while the other series is shielded by a special varnish. See exhibit 130. Moll thermopiles are used in pryometers for measuring the global solar radiation (that direct and that reflected from the clouds) included in the range (0,3-2,5 microns). In this case the thermopile is connected to an electronic device calibrated to furnish a current proportional to the global radiation.
