DESCRIPTION
Exhibit 526 is a Foucault pendulum apparatus consisting of an arc mounted on a turnable base which supports a simple pendulum attached at its peak. When the pendulum is started, one notes that the plane of oscillation remains fixed in space while the base is rotated. This is the phenomenon which in 1852 Jean Bernard Leon Foucault used to demonstrate the rotation of the earth which rotated the pendulum support but left the plane of oscillation fixed in space.BIBLIOGRAPHY
